MANDACA
Vocalist
and blues guitarist Mandaca was
born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where
he currently resides.
He's traveled around the world
and also lived in California and
Portugal. He began both playing
guitar and making surfboards at
around the age of 15.
For most of his adult life, he
has earned a living by making
surfboards for some the sport's
top professionals through his
own brand PMD, and only recently
has began his career as a musician.
He is currently recording a self-produced
album called MANDACA PLAYS
ITHAKA in which he readapts
lyrics by hip hop nomad Ithaka
and translates them sonically
into his own brand of sweet, nostalgic,
blues-influenced folk rock.
Mandaca's deep, lazy drawl voice
pulls emotion out of the lyrics
that Ithaka himself probably didn't
even know existed. In addition
to his gifts of music and surfboard
design, Mandaca is also a writer
and a painter who has recently
been exhibited at the Museum of
Image and Sound in Sao Paulo.
